Transvaginal Scan

In order to assess the female reproductive tract organs including uterus, ovaries and tubes, we can perform ultrasound scan. Ultrasound scans can be done by abdominal (over tummy) or transvaginal (internal) route. Transvaginal ultrasound scan is much more accurate compared to an abdominal scan. The reason for this, is the proximity of the vaginal probe to the uterus and ovaries and the frequency of the sound waves that can be used in this method. One can even argue that a detailed transvaginal ultrasound scan by an experienced expert is comparable or even superior to a diagnostic laparoscopy in assessing female pelvic organs.

Transvaginal ultrasound scan is not painful; it is safe; this method could potentially prevent a diagnostic laparoscopy which is invasive, expensive and needing general anaesthesia and recovery time.
