Polyps

Polyp is a benign growth inside the cavity of the womb. The chance of a polyp to be malignant is less than 1%, however due to the potential malignant nature of the polyp it is always recommended to remove the lesion. Polyps can act like a foreign body inside the cavity of the womb. With the same mechanism they can cause infertility, therefore when a polyp is seen or is suspected, hysteroscopy needs to be performed to confirm the lesion and to remove it at the same time. Removal of polyp(s) increases the chance of natural pregnancy.  it is not advisable to proceed with a transfer of embryo if a polyp is present or is suspected.
