Adenomyosis is a condition of the uterus where the lining of the womb has migrated into the wall of the womb, it can be described as the endometriosis of the wall of womb. The cause of this disease like endometriosis is unknow. Most often this disease does not cause any problem in patients. The diagnosis is made by having a detailed transvaginal ultrasound scan. In symptomatic patients, women would suffer from heavy periods, painful periods or both. It can also cause infertility as it reduces the chance of implantation of embryo either in nature or in IVF.
