Hydrosalpinx

Hydrosalpinx is a condition where the fallopian tube is swollen and. Fallopian tubes are the tubes that connects the ovary to the uterus. When tube is swollen, it accumulates fluid inside. This condition is called hydrosalpinx. Per se this condition should not cause any pain or obvious symptoms. When hydrosalpinx is present the fluid from the fallopian tube leaks into the cavity of the womb and prevents implantation of an embryo causing infertility. When this condition is suspected or confirmed, laparoscopy needs to be done in which, fallopian tube should be disconnected from the uterus. If one tube is affected and the other tube is normal, then there is a chance of natural conception; if both tubes are affected, both need to be ligated/cut, in that case, IVF should be considered. If a hydrosalpinx is left on treated and embryo transfer performed, the chance of implantation is significantly reduced.
