Tubal Factors

Patent unobstructed fallopian tubes are important to achieve a natural pregnancy. If both tubes are closed, there is no chance of natural conception. If one tube is closed, the other tube can pick up the eggs even from the affected closed side, therefore the chance of natural pregnancy is not compromised. It is important to make sure that the closed tube does not have any hydrosalpinx in that case; the hydrosalpinx has a significant adverse effect; this is due to the fact that the fluid from hydrosalpinx (swollen tube) can leak into the cavity of the womb and even pregnancy from the unaffected side cannot be achieved. In order to assess the patency of the tubes HSG or a HyCoSy can be done to confirm. If patient is having a laparoscopy, a dye test can be done at the same time to check the tubes.
